“I am reminded every day by my two daughters just how important it is to start saving now for their education… I would like them to be part of the Sallie Mae story that more than 35 million students are already a part of by having selected Sallie Mae as their lender.”

“The day that I left my oldest son at the doorstep of The College of William and Mary in 2003 was the day that opened my eyes. Looking into the eyes of those “up and coming” young adults, in the large stadium where they corralled the incoming freshmen and their families, I realized that I, somehow, through my 20 years of service with Sallie Mae, contributed to their success in landing there… My presence at Sallie Mae was suddenly even more meaningful to me. It wasn’t just a paycheck anymore; it was serving those students who were there to fulfill their dreams just like my son. I suddenly knew that my purpose all along at Sallie Mae was to do just that.”

“A higher education is the American ticket to a successful and fulfilling life. Too many deserving students miss the opportunity to pursue their dreams of a college education simply because they cannot afford it. For more than 35 years, Sallie Mae has taken a stand against this societal inequity. I could not be more proud to serve this mission.”

“People I encounter outside of work always want to talk about their student loan experience when they find out where I work. They often express their appreciation for the loans that allowed them the opportunity to obtain higher education. For example, the teller at my local bank always reminds me that he is attending George Mason thanks to loans that were obtained and serviced through Sallie Mae.”

“Working at Sallie Mae has had a huge impact in my life. Not only have I been able to support an effort that was critical to getting me through college, and that I am passionate about, but I have experienced many different jobs within this one company and the challenges have been very rewarding. I now have two children that are in college, and working for Sallie Mae has allowed me to understand the importance of saving for college and even better, allowing my children to go to college and live out their dreams!”

In Virginia, jobs are on the line.

With the economy in the doldrums, it is getting harder and harder for people to find a job. But here in Virginia, there are well-paying jobs that are in jeopardy, and it is not because of the weak economy. Politicians in Washington D.C. are considering legislation that would make all student loans government run, which could take
hundreds of jobs out of Virginia.

We strongly support the President’s call for student loan reform. But we can achieve smart, effective reform that’s in the best interest of students, parents, and schools without sacrificing jobs here.
